Myrtos Beach, Melissani Cave, and Assos village all sit within a thirty-minute drive. Makris Gialos and Platis Gialos beaches are five kilometers south. Argostoli itself holds a traveler for a morning—enough time to watch the turtles, walk Lithostroto, and eat at a harbor-front taverna—but most visitors treat it as a staging point rather than a destination. The ferry port connects to Lixouri across the gulf, a fifteen-minute crossing that runs hourly in summer. For those staying on Kefalonia's western or northern coasts, a visit to Argostoli offers logistical convenience and a chance to see the island's turtles without booking a marine tour.
